Title: Dhammapada, The

Author: Banerjee, Nikunja Vihari

Description: ‘The Dhammapada’ is the quintessence of the Buddha’s teachings. This book is an anthology of 423 verses of different authors whose names are not mentioned. The verses are mostly concerned with Buddhism, but a few with Mahabharata and Manusmriti, are arranged in 26 groups. The author has given in this book the complete Pali text in both Devnagari and Roman characters. Because the 26 groups deal with subject matter concerned with things or persons, moral phenomena, and miscellaneous items, they are arranged in three divisions, bringing out the spirit of the message succinctly. In the last chapter, the author shows how the Dhammapada echoes the message of the great religions of mankind and thus is universal in character and relevant to people at all times.
